Gapyeong governor dresses up as Batman

Gapyeong County governor Kim Seong-gi attempted to break the stereotype that politicians are too serious, dressing up over the weekend as Batman and appearing on a singing show.

Kim, of the ruling Saenuri Party, made an appearance at a county event, which featured an idol-style singing contest. After being introduced by the emcee, Kim startled the crowd by showing up as the caped crusader.

The bat-suit included the bat emblem on Kim’s chest, a cape, and a mask covering his eyes.

He did not sing or dance when he came on stage.

Instead, he waved to the people of the rural village of Yihwa-ri, who were applauding his appearance.

He then invited fellow politicians onto the stage, where the group performed a rather sloppy dance, showing a more “human face” of politics, according to various citizens in a report by Yonhap News Agency.

"They seemed serious and solemn all the time, but through this stage, we saw a softer side and a more honest image," said Kim Kwang-ja, 56, a Gapyeong resident told Yonhap.

The event also included various residents putting on a play based on the classic Korean short story, “A Lucky Day.”
