North Korea has banned women from wearing pants in public, Radio Free Asia reported Wednesday, citing North Korean sources visiting China.
As of September 1, the North Korean government announced a crackdown on local women wearing pants in public. Female university students are most likely to get caught, locals said.
A North Korean news outlet dubbed this as “a move to block the yellow breeze from the south.”
North Korea reportedly allowed women to wear “non-revealing and neat” pants in public five years ago.
However, the country has seen an increase in females wearing jeans, capri pants and even skinny jeans – styles popular in the South.
The ban would mean that women working in factories would have to wear skirts when they commute, the report said.
