KBS to air 'Korean Robin Hood' drama

KBS is launching a new drama based on the life of Hong Gil-dong, Korea’s equivalent of Robin Hood.

The network recently released a short YouTube preview about the upcoming show, which is titled “Ganseochi Yeoljeon.”

The preview hints that the show will focus on a group of sword-wielding characters who are on a mission to find Hong, a historical figure in the Joseon Kingdom who later took on supernatural characteristics in books and films.

The show will air its first episode Sunday. KBS will also release short web episodes leading up to the premier.

Hong Gil-dong was first introduced in early 1600s in a novel by Heo Gyun. Scholars say Heo based the character on a proletariat leader who fought against the despot Prince Yeonsan.
