Girl’s Generation member Jessica has been dropped from the group, S.M. Entertainment confirmed Tuesday, citing internal conflict within the band.
Speculation ramped up this morning when Jessica – whose real name is Jung Soo-yeon -- left a message on her Weibo account, saying she had been informed by S.M. and the other eight members of the group that she had been ousted.
“I’m devastated – my priority and love is to serve as a member of GG,” she said. “But for no justifiable reason, I am being forced out.”
The post led to speculation over the reason for the unexpected farewell. Rumors abounded over her marriage to Korean-American businessman Tyler Kwon. Her fashion business was also raised as a possible source of tension.
The other members appeared at Incheon International Airport before departing for an appearance in China.
According to the company, Jessica had already given notice to leave the band after an upcoming studio album. It also said that she and the band had many disagreements, including over Jessica’s fashion-related business.
“We decided to continue Girl’s Generation with eight members earlier than expected, and while talking about a date for the decision, Jessica left the post this morning,” the company says.
Jessica will continue to be backed by S.M. Entertainment, the company said.
