Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul has cancelled a student-organized meeting to discuss the aftermath of April’s deadly Sewol ferry disaster, saying the event was too political.

According to Yonhap News, the university on Tuesday refused a student request to use a classroom for the meeting because political and religious activities are banned. The spokesperson for the victims’ families, Yoo Kyung-geun, was scheduled to attend.

The families have been running hosted similar events in Seoul since Monday. Sungkyunkwan University students were to have held the meeting on Friday.

Yoo, who is the father of one of the victims, told Yonhap that the school had made a “narrow-minded” decision.

A university official said classrooms could not be used for anything except lectures.

Student organizers are considering holding the meeting at the university’s main entrance.
