Idol singer's drug charge dropped

Son Ho-young

Prosecutors suspended the indictment against singer Son Ho-young, a member of the veteran boy band G.O.D., on charges of taking Zolpidem, a sleep-aid drug that requires a doctor’s prescription, the Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office announced Friday.

The decision was based on the prosecutors’ conclusion that the 34-year-old has no record of past drug offenses, did not use the drug more than once and acknowledged his mistake.

In May, Son was caught trying to commit suicide by locking himself inside his vehicle and igniting a coal fire starter.

Son left the vehicle as it caught on fire and was taken to a hospital. He reportedly sustained no serious injuries.

While trying to kill himself, he allegedly took Zolpidem, which police discovered while investigating the scene after the incident.
