Political differences a no-no for blind dates

The biggest turn-off for single men and women is finding that their blind dates’ political interests do not match their own, a survey shows.

Six out of 10 singles said they would not risk dating someone with differing political views.

With the June 4 local election close, matchmaking company Duo quizzed 711 single men and women to analyze how political elements affected their blind dates. In the result released Tuesday, 407 respondents said they would not waste time meeting dates with opposing political views.

About 50 percent said couples with different political interests would fight constantly.

Twenty percent said they would never compromise their political views even with their date.

Fifteen percent agreed that differing political interests would mean an “unmanageable psychological difference.”

The views reinforce another result from the survey, with most respondents saying that politics was their number one topic to avoid on blind dates.

On a more positive note, the most popular topics/requirements for successful blind dates were “travel” (36 percent), “world view with love interests” (21 percent) and “hobbies and special skills” (10 percent).
