A man was arrested for spreading false information as if he was a survivor in the Sewol ferry disaster, said Yonhap News Wednesday.
Kim, 20, uploaded a post on his Facebook account saying, “Please spread my words. There are six people altogether in a room nearby the dining hall. I can’t even call someone. I hear glass breaking but I can’t see anything. Please, fast, there are lots of people near the dining hall. Please rescue us.” It was posed around 11:22 a.m. on April 17, the day after the ferry incident.
He copied the profile of a dead student and replicated it as if he was the sacrificed one. He even modified the location services so that it could appear as if he was actually in the accident area.
“I did that to speed up the rescue process,” said Kim.
Police announced that it would strictly enforce information network laws if someone tries to spread false information.
