A 20-year-old man, Lee, has been charged with murdering his cousin with a chainsaw apparently fueled by an inferiority complex.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency said Lee prepared a 50cm long chainsaw and invited his 23-year-old cousin, Kim, to his apartment in Ulsan.
He put his cousin on sleeping pills and while he was asleep, he amputated Kim’s body parts using the chainsaw, instantly killing the victim.
Soon after the murder, at 12:51 p.m., he phoned the police and confessed his murder. Kim was arrested on site 20 minutes later.
Police raise the possibility Lee’s feeling of inferiority towards his cousin pushed him to the ruthless murder.
Lee told police, “I had grudges against my cousin because he often looked down on me and my father.”
He had no job as a high school graduate and had lived with his grandmother after his parents’ divorce.
However, after his grandmother fell sick and entered a nursing home, he was left alone.
Police said, “He was sober at the time of the murder and had no record of mental illness. He was calm throughout the investigation.”
They are planning to issue an arrest warrant against Kim.
