Samsung Lee Jae-yong's son quits school voluntarily

Listen

The 13-year-old son of Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong voluntarily signed out of Yonghoon International School, news reports said Wednesday.

The boy did not turn up at school on the day and company officials speaking on behalf of Lee Jae-yong said he will not be attending the school any further.

His admission into the international school drew attention because he was selected on the basis of the fact that he was the child of a single parent family, a basis on which those who are not qualified on general standards are admitted.

The boy, who reportedly has been going through emotional trauma, is expected to head overseas for his studies.

The incident has triggered a major investigation into the illegal admission of students at international schools.
