K-pop group Super Junior is currently touring four South American countries and in partnership with the Korea-Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) has donated clothes to the underprivileged in Brazil.
The state-run trade promotion body on Saturday held a seminar and a fashion show to mark the 50th anniversary of Korean immigration to Brazil, held in Sao Paolo, Saturday. The donation was part of the program.
At the seminar, discussants from the two countries reviewed the history of Korean immigrants and their are active participation in Brazil’s clothing industry. They also discussed how to further enhance cooperation in the sector between the two countries. Korean-run clothing business such as Audiovisual, Malagueta, Citie and next-generation Korean designers took part in the fashion show that followed. The firms donated 2,000 women’s garments to four children’s and women’s centers.
Super Junior put up 2,000 items of clothing, delivering them to the Sao Paolo government and the Red Cross.
According to KOTRA, about 50,000 Korean immigrants live in Brazil where they mainly work in the clothing sector. Korean clothing companies take up 40 percent of market for women’s clothing in Brazil.
