In a bizarre occurrence, students of a private university in Seoul demanded that those who showed up for blind dates introduce themselves mimicking people who are handicapped.
The news spread rapidly as one of the persons present posted the event on social network services, including Facebook.
The female partners on the blind date, who major in special education, retaliated and said their primary purpose in going to college is to acquire the skills to educate disabled students and protect the right of the handicapped.
The postings said the male students merely responded that it was a joke and an element of their “culture.”
The event picked up even more speed as netizens posted their responses, most of them critical of the insulting nature of the male students.
The chairman of the student council of the special education department of the university where the female students on the blind date attend said the male counterparts have agreed to post apologies for their actions and contact the partners individually to express their regrets.
