A 31-year-old woman who was living in a rented apartment in Seoul did not think twice about opening the door when a real estate agent came visiting with a client, a 49-year-old Chung.
About an hour later, as she was stepping out for business, the Chung grabbed her, dragged her back into the apartment and assaulted her sexually.
Chung had been scouting for an apartment and knew immediately that the woman was living alone.
Such occurrences are unfortunately common even in Seoul, which is reputed to be one of the safest in the world.
In one case, a sex offender disguised himself as a delivery personnel and raped a woman who was living alone in Incheon.
Statistics show that a home is no longer a safety zone. Out of the 19,498 sex-related incidents that reported across the country, 4,103 occurred within residential premises.
Such incidents are particularly prevalent during the festive season when there are frequent delivery of gifts.
