Policeman found guilty of stalking

Listen

The administrative court of Ulsan in South Gyeongsang Province has dismissed an appeal by a 45-year-old police officer of having been fired for wrongful reasons.

According to court accounts, the police officer began to stalk a woman that he was dating after she refused to him in March 2011. He visited her home and office uninvited on numerous occasions.

Over the preceding four months, he sent threatening and insulting messages on more than 1,000 times and was eventually indicted on charges of illegal entry.

In September of that year, the police officer was relived of his duties for defamation of public image.

The police officer made one appeal after another, saying that it was a private affair and that it did not infringe upon his official duty.

He insisted that his dismissal was an abused of authority, especially since he had been given a number of commendations for his work as a police officer.

However, the court ruled that his behavior not only reflected on his position as an officer of the law but threatened family members, thus making it inappropriate for a police officer.
