Tiger Woods: Sorry for behavior

Golf czar Tiger Woods, who appeared to the public in nearly three months after the sex scandal, has apologized for his activities repeatedly.

Revealing his position at the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the U.S. PGA Tour, Friday, Woods said that he said he was "deeply sorry for his irresponsible and selfish behavior.

``I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did was not acceptable,'' said Woods. "I was solely responsible for my actions." But his wife was not with him.

He said he I have disappointed his wife, his children, his mother, his mother-in-law, his friends and world's fans.

He rejected reports that his wife had attacked him on Thanksgiving night, when the whole episode began after he crashed his car.

"It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that," he said. "Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage.''

"Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal," he said. "Elin deserves praise, not blame. I have a lot to atone for.''

Woods said he was in treatment for 45 days and will return for more therapy on Saturday, adding he has more work to do to resolve his personal problems.

U.S. media have reported that he has undergone sex therapy at a rehabilitation institute in Mississippi

``I do plan to return to golf one day," Woods said, touching on returning to the field. "I just don't know when that day will be. I don't rule out it will be this year.''

He invited some 40 friends and reporters, including his mother, to the press conference

`골프황제' 타이거 우즈가 성추문 사태 이후 3개월 가까이만에 첫 공개 석상에 나와 자신의 행동에 대해 거듭 사과했다.

우즈는 이날 미국프로골프협회(PGA) 본부가 있는 플로리다주 폰테베드라비치 TPC소그래스 클럽하우스에서 언론에 공개된 가운데 가진 자신의 입장 표명발표를 통해 "나의 무책임하고 이기적인 행동을 깊이 반성한다"고 밝혔다.

우즈는 "나는 외도를 했고, 관계를 맺었으며 바람을 피웠다"면서 "내가 한 일을 받아들일 수 없다. 비난을 받아야 할 유일한 사람은 나"라고 자책했다. 아내는 기자회견장에 있지 않았다.

그는 그 같은 얘기를 사람들이 날조한다는 것이 나를 화나게 한다"면서 "엘린은 그날 밤이나 어떤 다른 날 밤에도 나를 때리지 않았고, 우리의 결혼생활에서 어떤 가정폭력 사건도 없었다"고 강조했다.

그는 "엘린은 이번 시련 속에서 엄청난 품위와 침착함을 보여줬다"면서 "엘린은 비난이 아니라 찬사를 받을만 하다. 이번 사건에는 나의 거듭된 무책임한 행동만이 있을 뿐"이라고 말했다.

그는 아내와 내 아이들, 어머니, 장모님, 친구 및 세계의 팬들에게 상처를 줬으며, 팬들의 기대를 저버렸다고 말했다.

우즈는 하지만 이번 사태가 공개적으로 알려진 계기가 된 지난해 추수감사절 밤에 일어난 의문의 교통사고와 관련, 아내인 엘린 노르데그린에게 맞았다는 보도를 전면 부인했다.

우즈는 이어 이번 사태 이후 최근 45일간 치료를 받아왔으며, 20일부터 다시 치료센터에 들어가 계속 치료를 받을 예정이라면서 개인 생활을 바로잡기 위해 가야할 먼 길이 있다고 전했다.

그동안 미 언론은 우즈가 미시시피주의 한 재활원에서 성관계 중독 치료를 받았다고 보도해 왔다.

한편 우즈는 자신의 골프 복귀 문제와 관련, "언젠가는 골프에 복귀할 계획을 갖고 있다"면서도 "그날이 언제가 될지는 모르겠다. 그것이 올해가 될지에 대해서는 배제하지 않겠다"고 말했다.

이날 입장표명은 어머니를 포함, 자신의 친구, 지인 등 40여명이 참석한 가운데 열렸다.
