A: According to the Korea Customer Protection Board, the average cost of a funeral is between $15,000 and $20,000. The cost includes materials for the deceased, ceremony, reception and others. The ceremony will cost about $10,000, the burial about $7,150 and arranging a charnel house is about $2,600. Funeral ceremonies are usually held in hospitals, private residences, funeral parlors and religious facilities.
Q: I hold an F-5 visa and I understand that I can leave Korea for up to one year at a time and keep my visa. I recently learned that I must leave Korea soon for an indefinite period. Is there any way I can keep my visa valid for longer than one year? Also, during my absence, must I continue to pay my health insurance or is there a way to temporarily stop paying it?
A: According to the immigration office, if you leave the country for more than one year, your visa will be valid once you get a multiple reentry permission before you leave Korea. Multiple re-entry permission allows an absence of up to two years.
