Seoul National University dismisses former justice minister

By Ko Dong-hwanFormer Justice Minister Cho Kuk / Korea Times fileCho Kuk, a former justice minister, was dismissed on Tuesday by the disciplinary committee from the Seoul National University where he had taught students since 2009.The move to evict the school's former law professor came three years and five months after he was indicted on a dozen charges, including fabricating various documents to help his two children gain admission to universities and graduate schools.The decision by the committee now remains to be finalized by the school's President Ryu Hong-lim within 15 days. The dismissal of Cho from the school was considered by the school's previous president who delayed it until last July, saying the fact that prosecutors indicted him was not enough to warrant his dismissal.Cho was indicted without arrest in December 2019 when he was serving in the ministry. GettyimagesbankA Korean woman in her 30s has been found dead in Cambodia and a Chinese couple has been arrested on charges of disposing of her body, local media reported Sunday.The woman's body wrapped in red cloth was found in a puddle in a small town near Phnom Penh on Tuesday, according to the Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper and other local media outlets.The victim, identified as an internet broadcaster, was traveling in Cambodia at the time.The Chinese suspects, who are in their 30s, allegedly confessed to abandoning the body after the victim began experiencing seizures and subsequently died while receiving treatment at a clinic they were running on June 4.According to a local source, it is presumed that the victim died after receiving an intravenous solution or serum injection at the clinic. But there are also rumors that she was found with a swollen face, which raises the possibility of assault, the source said.
