The measures, which went into effect Thursday, will enable health authorities to quickly identify the whereabouts of foreign nationals in case of COVID-19 infections. Foreigners who are allowed to stay in Korea for 90 days or less holding a short-term visa must show their passport or travel documents to the accommodation operators upon their arrival. The accommodation operators should report the information to the local immigration office.Those refusing to submit passports or giving false personal information will face fines up to 500,000 won ($460).The provided passport data is currently delivered to the authorities via email, fax or text message, but the ministry plans to launch a website and app for the reporting system
