ED Yoon's turn to change

The heated race for the April 10 general elections has ended with a landslide victory of the opposition bloc against President Yoon Suk Yeol's governing People Power Party (PPP). Yoon will apparently suffer from a significant setback, as the election result impacts his remaining three years in office. With his PPP securing only 108 out of 300 seats in the National Assembly, Yoon is poised to be relegated to the status of a lame-duck president.

ED How South Korea can aid Ukraine

In March, Russia vetoed a routine resolution to extend the mandate of the U.N. Panel of Experts. Moscow’s decision to end the primary U.N. body responsible for investigating U.N. sanctions violations should erase any doubt about Russia’s willingness to violate sanctions to aid its war effort in Ukraine. It should also end any belief that Moscow is a partner for peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

ED Begin dialogue soon

President Yoon Suk Yeol delivered his third presidential address on Monday and spoke about efforts to find a way out of the government-doctor gridlock regarding his proposed plan to recruit more medical students starting next year. Despite the six-week-long walkout by 12,000 junior doctors, medical professors had remained steadfast, but have started to reduce their work hours.

ED Deplorable end to UN mission

It is deplorable that Russia exercised its veto power as a member of the United Nations Security Council to disband a U.N. panel tasked with monitoring sanctions aimed at preventing potential North Korean nuclear development activities. The panel will expire on April 30 as Russia blocked the renewal of its operation. We express strong regret over Russia's action.
