TV Actress Song Ties Knot With 5-Year Younger Dentist

TV actress Song Hee-ah, 30, tied the knot with a 25-year-old Korean dentist in the United States in southern Seoul Sunday evening. The bridegroom, identified only with the family name Shin, is a school junior of Ahn Sang-hoon, the husband of TV celebrity Suh Min-jung. The couple held the wedding ceremony at Billade Vailley Wedding Hall in Nonhyon-dong at 6:30 p.m. They held an engagement ceremony last January after dating for several years. “I think we met as best friends, a couple and family to each other. Shin Hae-chul Discharged After Treatment

Popular singer Shin Hae-chul, 41, said he was released from a hospital several days ago after nearly 10 days of treatment. In a posting on his homepage, he said, ``I had been hospitalized for nearly 10 days. I have been diagnosed with liver, stomach and heart diseases.'' He said his liver has grown large enough to cover other internal organs. ``It's all symptoms from alcohol addiction,'' he said. Shin said the release of his new album, originally due next month, would likely be delayed. ``I have nothing else to do but music. But I cannot even yell now,'' he said. Epik High Suspends Activities for 6th Album

Korean hip-hop trio Epik High has decided to quit promotional broadcasting activities for their sixth album ``[e]''as one of its members has been drafted for mandatory military service. The suspension came less than one month after the group released their latest album with the single ``Wannabe.'' The decision came ahead of DJ Tukutz's wedding on Oct. 13, and the start of his two-year military service on Oct. 15. He posted a letter, Wednesday, to his fans at the group's official Web site to inform them about the marriage and draft, saying ``I will leave just for a while.'' The group, composed of Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz, will appear on an MBC music program today to discuss their plan. Tablo also posted a photo of the group members on his Web site, Thursday, titled, ``There is no such a thing as an end.'' University Chief Promotes Campaign to Wear Hangeul

By Cho Jae-hyon Staff Reporer Pai Chai University President Chung Soon-hoon is known as a leading advocate for the globalization of Hangeul. His love for the Korean alphabet is exceptional though he is the holder of a Juris Doctorate. Chung's first task after taking office at the Daejeon university in 2003 was to establish a course teaching Korean as a foreign language. It was the first time for a university here to establish a regular Korean-language in-house course for its foreign students. ``The course is aimed to meet growing demand from foreigners seeking to learn Korean,'' he said. Chung, 57, has set up 37 Korean language centers in seven foreign countries as part of efforts to draw greater international attention to the language celebrating the 583rd anniversary of its alphabet today. Yoona to Throw Ball for Baseball Game

Yoona, a member of Girls' Generation, one of South Korea's top girl groups, has been invited to throw the first ball at the third game of the Korean professional baseball playoff series between Doosan Bears and SK Wyverns. The match will take place Saturday at the Jamsil ballpark in southeastern Seoul, Doosan's home ground. Yoona, 19, will throw to wish Doosan's advance into the Korean Series with three consecutive wins. Doosan Bears are leading SK Wyverns 2-0 in the best-of-five playoffs. The winner of the playoffs will meet Kia Tigers in the best-of-seven Korean Series. ``I am excited and glad to be picked to throw the first ball for such an important game. Mourners Pay Respect to Wife of Hyundai CEO

By Jane Han Staff Reporter Dozens of business executives, politicians and celebrities lined up Thursday to pay their respects to Lee Chung-hwa, the late wife of Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo. First lady Kim Yoon-ok was the first of a string of mourners who visited Asan Medical Center in Seoul on the first day of a three-day mourning period to express their condolences. Lee, 71, passed away Monday at a hospital in Houston, Texas, where she was being treated for cancer. The mother of four, including one son, Chung Eui-sun, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor, and three daughters, was known to be a woman who devoted much of her life to looking after the Chung family. Kang Named to Jury of PIFF’s Award

Actress Kang Soo-yeon was appointed as a member of the jury of the Flash Forward Award at the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) that kicked off Thursday and will last for nine days in the southern port city, the organizing committee said. Introduced at the film festival in 2007, the award section was turned into a competition from this year. It was originally designed to introduce first or second films of Asian directors with an aim to unearth new promising moviemakers in the region. ``As this award became a meaningful competition, we wanted to invite one of the representative Korean movie figures, and actress Kang fits in nicely,'' a committee official said. Actress Jeon to Get French Knight Order

The French government will award Korea's highly-acclaimed actress Jeon Do-yeon, with the title of the Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor, France's highest (Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Legion d'Honneur), her agency said Thursday. Launched in 1802 by Napoleon, the Legion of Honor is granted regardless of the nationality of its recipient. The title recognizes Jeon's contribution to the culture and art fields, especially her efforts to promote Korean cinema in France. Star Couple Part Ways

Actor Kim Joo-hyuk and actress Kim Ji-soo have ended their six-year relationship. Their split, first reported by a local sports daily Wednesday, was confirmed by their agency Namoo Actors, Thursday. The daily quoted a source as saying: ``They broke up three months ago. The separation has been barely known, even unknown to their agency. I don't know why they broke up. They are still going through hard times.'' Yet, the relationship appears to have ended amicably. ``They have decided to remain friends,'' said an official from their agency, declining to elaborate. Mariah Carey Will Meet Fans Next Week

By Cathy Rose A. Garcia Staff Reporter Fans of Mariah Carey will have a chance to meet the American pop superstar once again in Seoul, next week. Carey will be in town on a promotional tour for her new album ``Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,'' which was released late last month. It's been six years since her last visit to Seoul in 2003. Universal Music Korea said Carey is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel, Samseong-dong, Tuesday. She will have an autograph-signing event at 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Evan Record store at COEX Mall. Some 130 lucky fans will also have a chance to meet Carey at a special fan meeting at the MTV Korea studios in Chungmuro, Jung-gu, Seoul, Wednesday.
