YonhapBy Kim Hyun-bin The body of Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho arrived from Los Angeles on a Korean Air flight early Friday morning and his funeral is being held for five days at Yonsei University's Severance Hospital in western Seoul.Cho's son, Korean Air President Cho Won-tae, and youngest daughter Cho Hyun-min ― a former vice president of Jin Air ― escorted their father's casket from Incheon International Airport to the funeral service area.“I have a heavy heart; I was beside him at his deathbed. Actor Lee Il-jae died of lung cancer on Friday. Lee debuted as a stage actor in 1981 and appeared in the film “The General's Son” in 1990 and drama “Rustic Period” in 2002-03. He featured in the third season of the tvN show “Nest Escape” in 2018 and revealed he had been suffering lung cancer. He leaves a wife and two daughters.

He began his business career at Samsung Construction & Trade (C&T), a trading company of Samsung Group, from which the CJ Group spun off in 1993.After serving as an executive at Samsung C&T's overseas business division until 1989, Lee worked as the Chairman of General Electric (GE) Korea between May 2005 and January 2007. He also served as the president and CEO of state-run Incheon International Airport Corp. between September 2008 and January 2013. Moon Tong-hwanPastor and social activist Moon Tong-hwan, known for his lifelong dedication to South Korea's democracy, has passed away, an informed source said Sunday. Cho Byung-pil, former president-publisher of The Korea TimesCho Byung-pil, a former president-publisher of The Korea Times, has passed away. He was 80 years old.Cho, a graduate of English Language and Literature at Yonsei University, began work as a reporter at The Korea Times in 1962, and eventually went on to serve as managing editor from November 1987 through November 1991. He was president publisher of The Korea Times from February 1994 through February 1997. His funeral service will be held at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in Gyeonggi Province. He is survived by two children.

YonhapBy Park Si-soo The elder sister of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee, Lee In-hee, died on Wednesday aged 90. She had served as an adviser to Hansol Group, once part of the Samsung Group. Lee ― born in 1929 in Uiryeong, South Gyeongsang Province ― was the first-born child of Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-chull who had four sons and six daughters. She married Cho Woon-hae, former chairman of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, in 1948 and had five children ― three sons and two daughters. She contributed much to Samsung's growth in the 1970-80s and to Hansol in the 1990s. Her third son, Dong-gil, leads Hansol. Lee co-founded the Dooeul Scholarship Foundation to support talented Korean women She is survived by her five children. Her funeral is scheduled for Feb. 1 at Samsung Medical Center.

YonhapA huge fire tore through a 21-story hotel in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, on Monday, leaving one employee dead and at least 19 others injured.The 53-year-old hotel worker was found dead on the first basement level of the Ramada Encore Cheonan hotel, authorities said. Nineteen people, including four firefighters, suffered inhalation and were sent to a nearby hospital. Three of them were severely injured. Some of them are unconscious, a source said.The fire broke out at the 21-story building in the city's downtown at around 4:46 p.m. The fire is believed to have started in the basement. The blaze was put out about four hours later, with its exact cause still unconfirmed.The hotel, which has a total of 420 rooms, opened in September last year. (Yonhap)

Pak Bo-hi died from chronic disease. YonhapBy Dong Sun-hwaPak Bo-hi, the “No. 2 man” of the Unification Church, died from chronic disease at 89 on Saturday. He had been in Cheongshim International Medical Center in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, since 2018. Born in 1930, Pak fought in the Korean War in 1950. He rose as the right-hand man of Unification Church founder, Moon Sun-myung in the 1970s, helping Moon with English translation when the church was spreading its influence abroad. Pak's daughter had a “ghost marriage” with Moon's second son, who was killed in a car accident. Pak was founding president and chairman of the Washington Times board, and president of the Segye Times. He was also involved in business with North Korea. When former North Korean leader Kim Il-sung died in 1994, Pak went to North Korea to offer condolences.
