S.Korea resumes loudspeaker broadcasts against North on border at 12:00 pm
South Korea resumed its loudspeaker broadcast campaign at noon Friday after the North's fourth nuclear test Wednesday.
The broadcasts began on the birthday of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and criticize the regime, which is likely to anger Pyongyang.
The campaign, a psychological warfare FM broadcast called "Voice of Freedom," includes news, radio dramas, K-pop and weather forecasts.
The broadcasts will be irregular, military sources said.
Sound from the loudspeakers can reach 24 kilometers at night and about 10 kilometers during the day.
The broadcasts started after the North's land mine attack in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on Aug. 4 that injured two South Korean soldiers. They were suspended on Aug. 25 when the two Koreas reached an agreement to promote peace.
The military said it has taken safety measures for soldiers and is on full alert for any physical or cyber attacks.
