Italian Ambassador to Korea Federico Failla
By Kwon Mee-yoo
Shock, sadness and anguish ― this is my reaction to the tragedy that occurred last Saturday in the Itaewon district of Seoul.
I join ― also on behalf of the entire Italian community in Korea ― in the despair of the Korean people at the sudden and unjust loss of the lives of so many young women and men.
I offer my most sincere condolences to all those people and families, Korean and non-Korean, who lost a loved one on that tragic evening.
The passing away of these young people in what should have been a moment of joy and celebration is a reason for profound grief and pain for all of South Korea and for me personally. Let me tell you that I carry with you the burden of this immeasurable sorrow.
