Former basketball player and idol singer to co-host TV talk show

Hwang Kwang-hee, left, and Seo Jang-hoonBasketball player-turned-TV entertainer Seo Jang-hoon and idol singer Hwang Kwang-hee are joining TV talk show “Healing Camp” as deputy MCs.The SBS show hosted by MC Kim Jae-dong previously used the pair on Oct. 7 as one-time MCs when the show had actor Joo Won as a guest.The program’s director has decided to hire the pair for an indefinite period, thinking their roles could create synergy with Kim and boost the show’s ratings. A director, identified as Kwok, said Hwang was good at making guests comfortable and Seo is a talented talker who knows how to entertain TV viewers by asking appropriate questions.The pair’s debut as deputy MCs is on Monday when singer Jang Yoon-ju will be the invited guest.

Kim Soo-hyun, Sohee deny dating rumors

/Korea Times fileTop hallyu actor Kim Soo-hyun and actress Sohee denied they are dating just 15 minutes after reports appeared online that they were.A news outlet reported Monday that he two are in a relationship, quoting sources close to the actress.But KeyEast Entertainment, which manages Kim and Sohee, rejected the report as “groundless.”“It's completely untrue,” a KeyEast official said. “We don't understand how this rumor was formed.”Sohee formerly belonged to girl group Wonder Girls. She moved agencies from JYP Entertainment to KeyEast last month. Kim is a top male hallyu actor known for his work in the 2014 drama “My Love From the Star.”

He has been a longtime friend and they started dating three years ago, according to media reports./ Courtesy of Naver blogThe star’s management company, Yuleum Entertainment, said Monday the couple will have a church wedding on Dec. 12 and will invite a small group of family and friends.Park debuted in 2001 as a magazine cover girl and has been appearing in movies and TV series, including tvN's "Second Time Twenty Years Old" that ended last Saturday.

BTS wins Best Korean Act in MTV awards

BTS / Courtesy of FacebookK-pop boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys) has won the Best Korean Act in the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards and advanced to the Worldwide Act Asia category to compete against artists from Japan, China and Vietnam.The seven-member band from Big Hit Entertainment defeated other K-pop bands B1A4, GOT7, VIXX and G-Friend.Competitors in the Worldwide Act Asia division include Taiwanese musician Jay Chou, Japanese band Dempagumi Inc., Chinese vocalist Jane Zhang and Vietnamese rapper Son Tung M-TP.  The winner of the Worldwide Act Asia award will compete against international artists for the title of Best Worldwide Act.The winner of this will be announced during the MTV Europe Music Awards at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago, Italy, on Oct. 25.

Actress gives 6 mil. won to unwed mothers

/YonhapActress Shin Min-a, 31, has been helping unwed mothers in Busan, Kookmin Ilbo reported Monday.The daily newspaper cited WithMom, a government-affiliated organization for single-parent families, as saying the actress donated a million won in December and 5 million won this month.Shin also donated 1 billion won for seven years to Community Chest of Korea to treat children with burns, pay heating bills for senior citizens living alone and for education for immigrant children.Lee Hyo-cheon, from WithMom, said they wanted to express their gratitude after seeing news of her donation, although she did not want to disclose it.Shin donated 5 million won to WithMom this month after reading a story about an unwed mother on the organization’s Facebook page.Shin is shooting the drama “Oh My God” with actor So Ji-sub. It will air on KBS next month.

Hollywood to cash in on Japanese cyberpunk hit

/ Courtesy of Naver blogHollywood is to make a film version of the Japanese cyberpunk cartoon hit from the 1990s “Battle Angel Alita.”The cartoon, by Yukito Kishiro, ran in magazine Business Jump from 1990 to 1995.Directors James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez will make the movie, which is expected to reach theaters after 2017, reports said Sunday.The cartoon, set in a post-apocalyptic future, focuses on Alita, a cyborg who lost her memories and was found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her as she becomes a bounty hunter.In the movie, Cameron, while portraying Alita’s journey to self-discovery, reportedly is asking audiences what it really means to be a human.

Lee Joon-gi to appear in 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter'

His role has not been disclosed. Actress Milla Jovovich uploaded a photo on Instagram of herself with Lee, saying “Working for the last few nights with the incredible 3rd Dan Tae Kwon Do master and actor Joon Gi.”The film will be released in 2017.

Gu Ha-ra from KBS's “Sorimsa” / Courtesy of KBSSinger Gu Ha-ra has marked herself as a potential shaolin kung fu prodigy on a reality TV show.On the show, she mesmerized competitors and viewers with her outstanding martial art skills.The singer from girl band KARA showed off her ability in the traditional Chinese martial art of kung fu on KBS’s “Sorimsa” on Saturday.The star, 24, and six other female celebrities tried to follow the regimental training undergone by kung fu apprentices from the Southern Shaolin Monastery in Fujian Province, China.The program showed Gu preparing herself for the martial art challenge, chiseling her body at a fitness center over the past four years.The star showed her lean yet muscular physique as she did sit-ups and pilates moves with help from her trainer.Gu, who debuted with the band in 2008, previously showed her athleticism in a celebrity sport competition in February by winning a preliminary 60-meter sprint.This earned her the nickname “Gusain Bold.”
