Jeonbuk National University, Buan County agree to cultivate talent for regional growth

Jeonbuk National University and Buan County in North Jeolla Province have agreed to cultivate talent for regional growth and promote industry-academia collaboration, the university said Wednesday. Yang O-bong, president of the university, and Kweon Ig-hyeon, mayor of the county, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation at the university’s campus in Jeonju on Tuesday . The two sides have agreed to cooperate in developing Jeonbuk National University into a regional hub university under the government’s “10 Seoul National Universities ” project. The initiative seeks to develop flagship national universities into hubs linking industry, academia, research institutions and local governments. Sejong Int'l Music Festival brings together performances, education, global exchange

Sejong University’s Center for Future Education recently hosted the 2026 Sejong International Music Festival (SIMF) in a bid to showcase the achievements of arts and cultural education programs and nurture future musical talent, the university said Monday. The university held the festival from June 9 to July 1 at its campus and the Naru Arts Center in northeastern Seoul. The SIMF is a classical music festival designed to bring together performances, education, international exchange and talent development. It is also a signature initiative that reflects the center’s strategy to advance and internationalize professional arts education. This year’s festival included diverse performances and educational programs, including piano recitals featuring artists and graduate diploma candidates of the Sejong Cultural Academy, a special concert, a piano masterclass and the final rounds of audition concerts. Kookmin University team develops perovskite quantum dot synthesis technology in collaborative study

A Kookmin University research team has developed a technology for the scalable synthesis of highly uniform perovskite quantum dots in collaboration with researchers from other institutions including the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST). Kookmin University said Tuesday that Kim Jae-hyuck, a master’s student in the university’s department of chemistry, played a key role in the study as a co-first author. Kim is a member of the university’s research team, led by chemistry professor Kim Young-hoon. His team collaborated with another Kookmin University research team led by chemistry professor Kim Hyung-min and a DGIST team led by energy science and engineering professor Choi Jong-min. The findings were published on July 3 in the international journal ACS Energy Letters under the title, “Precursor Diffusion-Controlled Scalable Synthesis of Monodisperse Iodide Perovskite Quantum Dots for Photovoltaics.” The journal is published by the American Chemical Society. Sejong University research team selected for government-funded cultural content R&D project

A Sejong University research team has been selected for a government-funded cultural content research and development project. The university said Friday that the team, led by professor Kim Soo-yeon of the Department of English Data Convergence, will participate in the 2026 Korea Creative Content Agency R&D Program funded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency. Under the initiative, Kim’s team plans to carry out a project to develop a personalized artificial intelligence (AI) agent technology designed to enhance cultural accessibility for people in culturally underserved communities. Kim, concurrently director of the university’s Institute of Humanities, Intelligence and Technology, will lead the project, which will run through December 2028. The project budget is estimated at 4.44 billion won ($2.95 million), of which 3.6 billion won will be provided by the government. 100 University of Seoul students embark on overseas study tours

The University of Seoul kicked off its 2026 overseas study tour program on Wednesday, sending 100 students in 25 teams to 12 countries. The participants will visit destinations including Japan, China, the United States, Australia, Spain and Portugal. The university said it held a launch ceremony for the GO (Global Odyssey)-UOS program at the Centennial Memorial Hall on its Seoul campus, July 2. University of Seoul team wins Autonomous Robot Manipulation Challenge at RoboCup 2026

A student team of the University of Seoul won the Autonomous Robot Manipulation (ARM) Challenge at RoboCup 2026, the world’s largest robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) competition, held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon from July 2-6. The university said Monday that the UOS Robotics team claimed the championship for the third time, following its victories in 2022 and 2023, reaffirming its position as a global leader in autonomous robotic manipulation technologies. The team competed in the challenge under the guidance of Hwang Myun-joong, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Information Engineering.
