Hyundai Motor’s Namyang R&D Center drives software-defined vehicle transformation

HWASEONG, Gyeonggi Province — Inside a dimly lit studio at Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang R&D Center, a researcher sits in a carbon-fiber cockpit surrounded by a massive 270-degree curved screen. As he hits the accelerator, the simulated road rushes past, and the entire rig tilts and vibrates, mimicking subtle asphalt textures of a real test track. Building countless physical prototypes for every design iteration is no longer viable. Instead, Hyundai Motor relies on a high-performance driving simulator operating on a six-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) motion system. The simulator translates linear and rotational movements — including roll and pitch — into an ultra-realistic driving experience. To achieve maximum fidelity, the carmaker scanned its Namyang proving grounds down to the millimeter, capturing specific slopes, speed bumps and surface roughness. To prevent massive rendering files from lagging, the company deployed a world-first "Terrain Server" system that streams topographical data in real time based on the virtual car’s location. The simulator is highly versatile. Researcher

KT, LG Uplus ramp up security measures amid SK Telecom data breach

As SK Telecom grapples with the fallout from a massive data breach, rival phone plan providers KT and LG Uplus are seizing the opportunity to underscore their commitment to cybersecurity by enhancing security services and customer-focused initiatives in a risk-sensitive market. SK Telecom’s recent hacking incident led to the leak of approximately 27 million user records, prompting around 330,000 customers to switch to rival companies since the breach was reported last month. KT has recently enhanced its business-to-business security service, Clean Zone. The service uses AI to analyze client traffic patterns, filtering out malicious traffic during distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks while allowing legitimate traffic to reach company servers. Using KT's database of over 5.3 million cyber threat entries, the service blocks both local and international cyberattacks in real time with high analytical precision. Users also receive additional preventative measures, including mock drills and monthly security reports. KT announced plans to more than double the capacity of Clean Zone in

'Dopamine banking' gains attention as key strategy to attract Gen Zers

"Dopamine banking" is gaining attention in the financial industry as an effective way to attract and keep Generation Z, known for their nomadic tendencies, according to the KB Financial Group Research Institute on Wednesday. Born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Zers are the first generation to grow up fully immersed in the mobile environment. Comfortable with smartphones and social media, they tend to prioritize emotional connection over practical functionality, and fun over pure information. The institute said in its recent report that Gen Zers' consumption habits have moved beyond trends to shape broader social norms, noting that this shift is now evident in traditional financial services — such as deposits, transfers and loans — which were once purely rational decisions but are increasingly driven by emotion and sensory appeal. This is why dopamine banking is drawing attention. Dopamine banking refers to a strategy that incorporates elements of pleasure and enjoyment into financial products and services, aiming to boost users’ immersion in banking apps. By structuring services to off

US FDA conducting inspection at Samsung Biologics facilities in Korea

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently conducting an on-site inspection of Samsung Biologics's production facilities in Korea, industry sources said Wednesday. According to the sources, the FDA launched the inspection at the company's facilities in Songdo, west of Seoul, and is scheduled to continue through Tuesday. Samsung Biologics is Korea's largest bio company and a major global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). FDA officials reportedly visited the company's third and fourth plants Monday to review operations and safety protocols. A Samsung Biologics official said the visit is part of the FDA's regular inspection. Samsung Biologics has advised employees to exercise discretion during the inspection period, including mandatory use of personal protective equipment. It also emphasized professional conduct and communication among employees. A Samsung Biologics official declined to provide specifics but stated that the inspection is unrelated to the FDA's ongoing pilot program for unannounced foreign facility inspections. Olive Young launches largest-ever beauty festival

CJ Olive Young Wednesday kicked off a five-day beauty and health festival in Seoul — the largest scale since the event’s launch in 2019. Marking the first time the Olive Young Festa is being held outdoors, the event reflects its growing popularity. Held on a 3,500-square-meter site on Nodeul Island on the Han River, this year's edition drew large crowds on its opening day, with visitors lining up even before the 10 a.m. opening, despite the sultry weather. According to the company, prebooked tickets reserved for Olive Young members sold out within minutes. The beauty arm of CJ Group expects the event to attract over 30,000 visitors. Lee Eun-jung, who heads Olive Young’s Brand Creative Center and oversees the festival, said she was “elated” to witness how much the event has grown. “The Olive Young Festa began in 2019 with just 50 brands in an indoor space of 2,975 square meters,” she said. “Since then, we’ve continued to evolve and have become a center of attention. It’s truly exciting to see the event held outdoors as a grand festivity. Our staff have been preparing fo
