Incheon airport expands shared bicycle service to mark World Bicycle Day

Incheon International Airport Corp. said Tuesday it is expanding a shared bicycle service around Korea's main international gateway, coinciding with World Bicycle Day — a United Nations-designated observance held annually on June 3 — and in response to the country's energy-saving measures amid rising costs linked to the Middle East conflict. The corporation is partnering with BongMobility, operator of the Ddabong Bicycle bike-sharing service, to extend pickup and return zones across the airport's surrounding area. Previously available only at select docking stations, the service will now allow users to borrow and return bicycles freely at locations including Incheon International Airport Terminal 1, Sky Garden, the cargo terminal complex, Airport New Town and additional sites within the service zone. Hanwha Aerospace partially suspends Daejeon factory following deadly explosion

Hanwha Aerospace, a defense affiliate under Hanwha Group, said Tuesday it has partially suspended production at its Daejeon facility after a deadly explosion at the plant. In a regulatory filing, the arms manufacturer said it was ordered by labor authorities to halt operations at the facility, about 140 kilometers south of Seoul, due to a serious workplace accident under South Korea's occupational safety laws. The explosion killed five people and injured two others and police have launched a joint probe to investigate the exact cause of the accident. Hanwha officials said workers were cleaning propellant powder residue from tools used in the production of propulsion systems at the time of the explosion. Consumer prices rise 3.1% in May on soaring fuel prices

Korea's consumer prices rose more than 3 percent in May from a year earlier amid global energy price volatility following the Middle East war, data showed Tuesday. GM Korea Co., the Korean unit of General Motors Co., said Monday its sales backtracked in May from a year earlier due to weak demand at home and abroad. The company sold 47,081 vehicles last month, down 5.9 percent from a year earlier, GM Korea said in a press release. Exports contracted 4.8 percent on-year to 46,273 units in May, while domestic sales plunged 42.6 percent to 808 units.
