CES 2026 Hyundai, Nvidia executives meet at CES 2026 to broaden self-driving alliance

LAS VEGAS — Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun held a closed-door meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during CES 2026, potentially exploring an expansion of the automaker’s alliance with the chipmaker into autonomous driving. The high-profile meeting between the two tech moguls Tuesday (local time) came shortly after Nvidia unveiled its Alpamayo open AI platform for self-driving cars at the world’s largest tech fair. With Hyundai Motor Group at an apparent disadvantage in the global race for self-driving vehicles, Chung’s meeting with Huang raises expectations for the automaker to equip its vehicles with Nvidia’s latest autonomous driving platform. Alpamayo allows cars to perceive and reason like human beings. Nvidia plans to apply the technology to Mercedes-Benz vehicles first and then make it available to cars from other brands. When asked about the potential partnership with Nvidia’s autonomous driving business, Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair Chang Jae-hoon recently said it is possible. Chung also visited the group’s booth at the Las Vegas Convention Cente

LG Innotek is showcasing a broad range of innovative mobility solutions at CES 2026, reinforcing its push to evolve from a components supplier into a full-fledged mobility solution provider. Highlights include camera modules capable of removing foreign substances in real time and ultra-compact, high-performance LiDAR systems with detection ranges of up to 200 meters. At LG Innotek’s booth in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, visitors are immediately greeted by a mock-up of an autonomous driving concept car. Rather than displaying individual parts, the company placed a full vehicle at the center of the exhibition, presenting its technologies in an integrated, 3D format that illustrates how they function together in real driving environments. The exhibition space reflects LG Innotek’s strategic shift toward mobility solutions. The autonomous driving mock-up incorporates 16 core components related to Autonomous Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Instead of showcasing cameras, LiDAR and radar as standalone products, LG Innotek emphasized convergence sensing

Korea Zinc shares slide over MSCI index exclusion after rights issue

Korea Zinc shares fell sharply Tuesday after its exclusion from the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) index was announced a day earlier. The removal, set to take effect next Monday, followed the zinc smelting firm’s latest third-party share issuance to finance its smelter project in Tennessee. According to the Korea Exchange, the stock slid 8.8 percent to 1.19 million won ($825) at the close. Shares opened at 1.31 million won and initially climbed to 1.327 million won, but soon reversed course and widened losses as the session progressed. Meanwhile, the KOSPI gained 67.96 points, or 1.52 percent, to close at 4,525.48. Selling pressure was led by foreign brokerages, with Merrill Lynch and Citigroup ranking among the top sellers. The sell-off followed MSCI’s announcement a day earlier that the zinc smelting company would be excluded. The index provider said Korea Zinc failed to meet free-float and free-float-adjusted market capitalization requirements after conducting a third-party share issuance. On Dec. 15, Korea Zinc announced plans to invest about 11 trillion won in partne

Hyundai Engineering, GS E&C 'very poor' in safety management: government

Hyundai Engineering and GS E&C received “very poor” ratings in a government safety management assessment conducted on agencies and contractors involved in public construction projects. The two builders are among 19 Korean construction firms rated in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's on-site safety management evaluation of project managers, construction firms and contractors in 2025. The two major builders scored below 40 out of 100 and were categorized the lowest in the five-grade rating system. The annual evaluation by the government, using a score-based grading system, lowers a score by one grade when a firm saw up to two workers' deaths at construction sites during the year. Two grades were deducted for up to four deaths, three grades for up to six deaths and those with seven or more deaths received the lowest grade. Hyundai Engineering saw at least seven deaths last year at construction sites, including a new highway connecting Sejong and Anseong and apartment projects in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. Work sites run by GS E&C also saw multiple deaths in Busan

CES 2026 Hyundai Motor Group says ‘never too late’ in self-driving

LAS VEGAS — Hyundai Motor Group said it is “never too late” to catch up in the rapidly evolving self-driving industry, as the carmaker continues to place technological validation ahead of a quick response to the market, Vice Chair Chang Jae-hoon told reporters during a press conference on the sidelines of CES 2026 Monday (local time). The remark came amid the monthlong leadership vacuum for the carmaker’s autonomous driving business, after Song Chang-hyun, former president and head of the group’s advanced vehicle platform division, resigned from the post last month, apparently due to delayed progress compared with market leaders such as Tesla and Waymo. “Hyundai Motor Group is now in the process of technological verification, and I believe we are never too late in the industry,” Chang said. He also stressed that it does not matter whether the carmaker remains highly responsive to the market. “Of greater significance is confidence in the market and technological verification,” he said. “We have so many new solutions and are now engaging in multiple projects to verify o
