The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) and European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) issued official statements of congratulations to President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol, Thursday.
AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim warmly congratulated President-elect Yoon on behalf of the foreign investment community in Korea.
“We join the people of Korea in celebrating another successful presidential election,” he said in the statement. “AMCHAM is grateful to have met with President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol at a special meeting with AMCHAM member companies last December. We discussed his visions for creating a global investment environment to enhance Korea's competitiveness and boosting trade between the U.S. and Korea.”
ECCK Chairman Dirk Lukat
Kim added that AMCHAM is confident that President-elect Yoon recognizes the value of the U.S.-Korea alliance, and the members will work closely with his administration to strengthen the bilateral commercial and economic partnership further.
“The Moon administration has shown remarkable leadership in steering Korea through some of the most challenging times in the global business environment. I truly believe that he helped enhance the image and branding of Korea,” he said.
“While the U.S. and Korea continue to face challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we firmly believe that the next five years holds tremendous opportunities, especially in strategic industries such as biopharma, semiconductors and digital technology. AMCHAM looks forward to playing a key role in building bridges between the governments and business communities of both countries to realize these opportunities.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. FTA, which AMCHAM called a significant milestone symbolizing greater potential for U.S.-Korea relations.
AMCHAM stated its commitment to being a trusted resource for deepening the enduring bilateral partnership to make Korea the best business destination for global companies in Asia and helping promote more small and medium-sized firms from Korea and the U.S. do more business abroad.
Similarly, the ECCK issued a statement on behalf of its members and partners in Korea.
“We express our sincere congratulations to President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol,” it said. “With the new leadership in Korea, we look forward to stronger and constructive relations with the government for success of the European-Korean business collaboration.”
