Choi Won-suk is a photojournalist at The Korea Times. Before joining the newspaper, he also worked as a photojournalist with AFP and St. Joseph News-Press in Missouri. He spent 13 years in the United States, graduating with a Bachelor of Journalism degree (Cum Laude) from the University of Missouri - Columbia and a Master of Arts in Photography from Ohio University - Athens. Over the past 11 years, Choi covered various news events such as presidential elections, the 2019 North Korea-United States Hanoi Summit and 2022 Qatar World Cup. But above all, Choi believes in local journalism and finds a lot of joy telling life stories of ordinary citizens in small neighborhoods.

South Korea's Constitutional Court on Thursday overturned a ban on abortion that has stood for more than 65 years, saying in a landmark ruling that current law unconstitutionally curbs women's rights. 'Surreal' Pyongyang marathon in spotlight as tensions ease

North Korea's Pyongyang marathon was run on Sunday (April 7) amid easing of tensions on the Korean peninsula.Athletes run through the capital of the reclusive state in the Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon, as the race is officially known.Nearly 1,000 foreigners, several hundred more than last year, signed up in the sixth year foreign runners have been allowed to compete, according to officials, as tensions between North Korea and South Korea have eased since 2018.A video provided by North Korea's official news agency KCNA, which Reuters cannot independently verify, showed North Korean and foreign runners starting the race as thousands cheered in the Kim Il Sung Stadium.KCNA said the event included a full marathon, a half-marathon and 10km and 5km runs. Thousands flee wildfire in South Korea's eastern coast

A wildfire in South Korea killed one person and forced more than 4,000 people to flee their homes on Friday (April 5).The fire broke out in eastern Gangwon Province on Thursday evening and spread to the seaside holiday city of Sokcho, burning about 385 hectares (950 acres) of land and 310 homes, warehouses and other buildings, Yonhap reported citing the government.About 4,230 citizens had been evacuated to gymnasiums and schools, and 52 schools would be closed on Friday.President Moon Jae-in has ordered the use of all available resources to extinguish the forest fire, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said in a statement.The government has deployed about 45 helicopters, 77 firefighting vehicles and 13,000 personnel from around the country to contain the fire. BTS tease new album "Map of The Soul: Persona"

Intruder at Spanish North Korean embassy contacted FBI - Court

One of 10 intruders who entered North Korea's embassy in Madrid by force on Feb. 22 contacted the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation days afterwards, Spain's High Court said on Tuesday (March 26).Spain's Interior Ministry had previously said police were investigating an incident at the embassy, but gave no details except to say that a NorthKorean citizen had been injured and that no one had filed a complaint.In an official document based on the investigation, the High Court said on Tuesday one of the group, a Mexican citizen resident in the United States, had contacted the FBI on Feb. 27 in order to pass on information regarding the incident at the embassy, including audiovisual recordings.The intruders had included citizens of Mexico, the United States and South Korea, the High Court also said in the document.The Mexican citizen said he had carried out the raid voluntarily and he did not identify his companions, the court document said.The group checked the embassy for arms before leaving the premises, at which point they separated into four groups and headed fo
