Samsung's Taylor plant to begin operations, with Tesla chips ready for fabrication

Samsung Electronics will soon begin operations at its foundry fab in Taylor, Texas, with preparations underway to churn out artificial intelligence (AI) chips for Tesla by using its 2-nanometer process. According to industry officials Sunday, Samsung Electronics will hold an equipment installation ceremony for the Taylor site on Friday. Samsung Electronics’ Foundry Business President Han Jin-man and other key officials from the semiconductor supply chain will attend the ceremony. To expand its foundry capacity in the U.S., Samsung Electronics broke ground on its Taylor fab in November 2022 with an initial $17 billion investment. The facility was initially scheduled to begin operations in October 2024, but the timeline was delayed due to setbacks in securing orders. The fab’s preparations picked up speed after Samsung Electronics last July clinched a $16.5 billion order from Tesla to fabricate its AI5 and AI6 chips for self-driving systems. Since then, the chipmaker has been deploying workers in charge of advanced process technologies to the Taylor fab, and recently expanded deployme

Samsung Bioepis announces efficacy of osteoporosis biosimilar Obodence

Samsung Bioepis has announced a follow-up data of the phase 3 clinical trial of its osteoporosis biosimilar Obodence, demonstrating biological similarity between Obodence and its reference product, Prolia, the company said Sunday. The drug developer said it announced a subgroup analysis from its global phase 3 trial of Obodence at the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases held in Prague from Thursday to Sunday. The analysis was conducted to assess how demographic characteristics, including age and body mass index, as well as disease-related factors such as fractures, affect treatment efficacy in 456 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Samsung Bioepis analyzed percentage changes from baseline in bone mineral density at the lumbar spine, total hip and femoral neck, 12 months after treatment with Obodence and Prolia, evaluating treatment effects before and after administration. Even after accounting for demographic and disease-related variables, the two drugs showed consistent efficacy across the subgroups, reaffirming their biological similarity se

Gov't, IT industry on alert over Mythos cybersecurity risks

The Korean government and domestic companies are increasingly concerned over potential security risks posed by Anthropic’s new artificial intelligence (AI) model, Claude Mythos Preview, due to its new cybersecurity capabilities. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Ministry of Science and ICT held meetings with the chief information security officers of Naver, Kakao, Woowa Brothers, Coupang and other platform and cybersecurity companies to assess potential security threats from Mythos and OpenAI’s GPT-5.4-Cyber. “The emergence of Mythos and other high-performance AI-based cybersecurity services presents an opportunity to significantly enhance security levels, while also highlighting the potential risks if such technologies are misused,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon said on Tuesday. “Korean companies and critical infrastructure must not be exposed to such threats, and must at the same time strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities.” On April 7, Anthropic published its "Alignment Risk Update: Claude Mythos Preview” document, calling it their

Naver remains dominant player in Korea's search market

Korea’s web portal Naver is maintaining its dominance in the country’s search market despite the growing public use of artificial intelligence (AI) services. According to market tracker InternetTrend, Naver’s average monthly share in the domestic web search market stood at 63.8 percent in March, followed by Google with 28.7 percent. On Feb. 28 and March 1, Naver’s share briefly exceeded 70 percent, reaching 70.6 percent and 70.4 percent, respectively. Naver’s market share is rising on a yearly basis, reaching 62.9 percent in 2025 from 58.1 percent in 2024. Naver’s high market share came despite doubts over its market dominance amid the growing use of generative AI services, as users increasingly turn to ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools for information searches. Industry officials said Naver's market share is attributable to the introduction of AI Briefing, an AI-powered service that generates summarized search answers, as well as the growing demand for cross-checking information on Naver after getting answers from generative AI tools.
