Gwangju Uprising site to be restored
Second Vice Culture Minister Jang Mi-ran, center, attends a groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration of the South Jeolla provincial government building in Gwangju, Monday, with other dignitaries including the May Mothers, a civic group consisting of mothers of the victims of the government's deadly suppression of the 1980 Gwangju Uprising. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will restore the building close to its original state by 2025 to promote national unity, as the site holds significance for the 10-day pro-democracy movement.
