Lydia Ko becomes youngest world No.1 golfer

Lydia KoSouth Korea-born New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko, 17, became the youngest world No.1 in golf history by reaching the top of the women’s rankings.Ko secured her top ranking after finishing tied for second place at the LPGA Coates Championship in Florida, last Saturday.Earning 9.7 points, followed by Park In-bee’s 9.67 points, Ko climbed to the top spot, eclipsing Tiger Woods, who was 21 when he became men’s world number one in 1997.“It’s amazing,” said Ko. “It’s huge honor to be in that ranking. All I was focused on was trying to play my best.”South Korean golfer Shin Jiyai was the previous female record holder as she topped the women’s rankings at the age of 22 in 2010.Ko became the youngest winner of an LPGA Tour event with victory at the Canadian Women’s Open in 2012 at age 15.
