Young Berliners protest naked over high rent

A growing number of the youths have protested naked against soaring home rent in Berlin.

Young protestors hiding nearby break into the home, take off their clothes and start dancing to loud music, when a real estate broker accompanies a client to an apartment to rent, according to local media.

They are a group of young ones who have failed to find rooms to live due to expensive rent. They have becoming notorious as they waged surprise rallies, holding audio system for noise.

“Rent has soared by 50% over the past few months. I can hardly bear the rent. It has taken six months for me to find a home for live in rent,” said a protestor. “Fortunately, I have found a home as I am single. It’s almost impossible for the married to get a house to live in rent nowadays.”

Friedrichshain in Berlin was a residential area for workers in the past. However, the town has emerged as a popular area to the youths and newlyweds, resulting in a serious shortage of apartments.

A local real estate dealer said that apartment rents in the refurbished town rose at least 14% last year, according to the media.

독일 베를린 프리드리히스하인에서 월세 인상에 항의하는 누드시위가 번지고 있다.

임대물로 나온 아파트 주변에서 대기하고 있다가 부동산중개업소가 임차 희망자를 데리고 집을 보러 가면 기습적으로 쳐들어가 옷을 훌러덩 벗고 음악을 틀곤 춤을 추는 이색적인 시위가 늘고 있다.

시위를 벌이고 있는 건 높은 월세 때문에 갈 곳을 구하지 못하고 있는 일단의 청년들. 청년들은 오디오를 들고 다니면서 기습시위를 벌여 악명(?)이 높아지고 있다.

시위를 벌이고 있는 한 청년은 “몇 개월 새 월세가 50%나 올라 감당하기 어려울 정도가 됐다.”며 “(월세를 낼 수 있는) 집을 얻는 데 6개월이 걸렸다.”고 말했다.

그는 “그래도 혼자라 겨우 아파트를 구했지만 가족인 경우에는 아파트를 구하기가 하늘의 별 따기가 됐다.”고 덧붙였다.

프리드리히스하인에서 아파트가 귀해진 건 동네가 확 변하면서다. 노동자들이 거주하던 동네가 청년•신혼부부 밀집거주 동네로 변하면서 아파트가 모자라기 시작했다.

현지 부동산업체에 따르면 프리드리히스하인에서 아파트 월세는 지난해에만 최소한 14% 올랐다.
