No Japanese female newscasters in World Cup

It will be difficult to see female Japanese newscasters covering the 2010 World Cup. Japanese TV networks are determined not to send any female newscasters and reporters to South Africa.

Social uncertainties are cited as the major reason, according to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The unrest has been the worst with murders 14 times that of Japan and rape at 23 times that of 2008.

Remaining Japanese media also plan to cut the number of staff to be sent to South Africa. TV Tokyo will send only 10 people, 80% less than the number sent to the 2006 World Cup in Germany and NHK will reduce the number from 93 to 73. Asahi TV, Fuji TV and TBS will also send 20~30 fewer reporters.

The ministry has warned people not to go out on foot and to stay inside at night to avoid probable danger.

이번 2010 월드컵에서는 일본 여성 아나운서를 보기 힘들 것 같다. 일본 방송사들이 2010 월드컵이 열릴 남아공에 여성아나운서는 보내지 않겠다고 했다.

주된 이유는 남아공의 치안이다. 일본 외무성에 따르면, 남아공의 치안은 최악이다. 2008년 통계에 따르면 남아공의 살인사건은 일본의 14배, 강간사건도 23배나 된다.

일본 언론은 여성아나운서를 안 보내는 것뿐만 아니라 파견스태프 규모도 줄일 것이다. TV도쿄는 독일 월드컵보다 80%나 줄인 10명을 보내고, NHK는 93명에서 73명, 아사히TV, 후지TV, TBS도 20~30명 정도 적게 보낼 것이다.

일본 외무성은 "되도록 차로 움직이고, 밤에는 외출을 삼가 해 달라" 고 말했다.
