Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min will visit the North London club next week for the first time since leaving them for Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in the summer.

Tottenham announced on their website Wednesday (local time) that Son will return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to bid farewell to home fans before the club's UEFA Champions League match against SK Slavia Praha next Tuesday.

Son played his final match in a Spurs shirt in an exhibition against Newcastle United at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Aug. 3. He then traveled straight to Los Angeles to join the Major League Soccer club.

Son spent 10 years with Spurs after arriving from the German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. He won the Premier League Golden Boot as the top goal scorer in the 2021-2022 season with 23 goals and captained Tottenham to the UEFA Europa League title in May this year for their first trophy in 17 years.

Son's 173 goals put him in fifth place in Tottenham's all-time scoring rankings. He is also the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history.

Tottenham also said Son will have "the opportunity to personally address the supporters" at the stadium.

"When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea, and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium," Son told the website. "Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on Dec. 9 for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family. It will be emotional, but it's important for me and the club that this happens."

Tottenham added a street mural celebrating Son's time with the club on Tottenham High Road, the thoroughfare to the stadium, is in the works and is set to be finished by the time of his visit.

Son enjoyed immediate success with LAFC, netting nine goals in 10 regular-season matches before adding three more in three playoff contests. LAFC fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Western Conference semifinals on Nov. 22.
