Korean international Hwang Hee-chan has extended his Premier League career high in goals, as his club Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a crushing loss due to a late penalty.
Hwang converted a 75th-minute penalty in Wolves' 3-2 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage in London on Monday (local time). It was Hwang's seventh goal in the league this season, putting him in a four-way tie for fifth in the category. Hwang sits one goal behind fellow Korean international Son Heung-min, the Tottenham Hotspur skipper who is tied for third place with Jarrod Brown of West Ham United, after getting three goals disallowed on offside calls Sunday.
Starting up front alongside Matheus Cunha, Hwang got his first look on goal in the 14th minute, when he struck the crossbar with a right-footed shot from outside the box.
Then with Wolves trailing 2-1, Hwang drew a foul in the penalty area in the 73rd minute. He took the spot kick himself two minutes later and scored with a right-footed shot to the high center of the goal.
Just when the match seemed headed for a 2-2 draw, Fulham earned a penalty themselves in the 90th minute, as Harry Wilson was fouled by Joao Gomes in the box.
The penalty was confirmed following a video review, and Wilson converted the ensuing kick to put Fulham ahead 3-2.
Hwang took one final crack at leveling the score, only to see his last-gasp attempt from outside the box sail over the target.
Hwang was voted the Man of the Match for his effort in the losing cause. Wolves are in 12th place with 15 points from four wins, three draws and six losses. (Yonhap)
