Russian diver Nadezhda Bazhina had a tough day at the Rio Olympics.
Bazhina, competing in 3-meter springboard qualification on Friday, slipped off the side of the board and landed on her back.
“Ooooohhhh, that’s calamitous,” a BBC commentator said. All seven referees scored her zero.
The former gold medalist in multiple European championships including 2010 Budapest, 2014 Berlin and 2016 London, failed to advance to the semi-finals.
“Her back was slapped by the water and will be slapped again by her coach,” a South Korean netizen said.
It was not the first such error to happen in an Olympics event. In the 2012 London Games, German diver Stephan Feck lost his footing and landed on his back.
