Spectators at the Carioca Arena 3 could hardly believe it when a mobile phone fell out of a French fencer’s back pocket during the men’s individual foil round 32 at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Sunday.

Enzo Lefort, 24, started his bout against German Peter Joppich, 33, with a black mobile phone-like device in his back left pocket.

As Joppich made a move, Lefort quickly avoided the attack, causing the device to pop out and slide across the floor.

Lefort quickly picked up the phone and handed it to a man. But he lost his pace after the embarrassing moment and finally lost the match.

Lefort won a gold medal in the men’s team foil at the 2014 Kazan World Championships.
