The Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) has maintained its ban on swimmer Park Tae-hwan competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
After the board of directors meeting Thursday, the KOC decided to uphold its original decision on Park despite the swimmer’s appeal against the committee at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The committee bans athletes who are caught infringing doping regulations from representing the country for three years after their suspensions end. Park claimed the regulation is “double punishment.”
The gold medalist finished his 18-month suspension in March.
