Olympic judoka Wang Ki-chun won a gold medal at the Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia, Friday (KST) to bring South Korea its first gold since Sunday.
In the men's 73-kilogram class at Hall 3 of the Belgrade Fair, Wang, 20, defeated Ungvari Attila of Hungary, who received three penalties.
It is the first gold for the country in the sport at the collegiate sports festival.
``I am happy I triumphed in Belgrade. I will not stop working because I want to go on winning. Each time I get a chance to achieve a good result I take it,'' said Wang, who finished second at the Beijing Olympics last year.
The Korean, who also claimed a gold medal at the 2009 Moscow Grand Slam on May 31, has high expectations to repeat at the World Judo Championships, which will take place in late August in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Three other Koreans failed to advance past the preliminary round and quarterfinals.
In the pool, Jeong Doo-hee has continued to set new Korean records.
The 24-year-old finished in 52.88 seconds in the men's 100-meter butterfly qualifier, to improve the old mark by 0.32 seconds, and then eclipsed that mark in the semifinals, clocking in at 52.69.
Jeong, who also broke two Korean records in the 50-meter butterfly, enters Saturday's final in sixth place.
Jung Seul-ki, who triumphed in the women's 200-meter breaststroke in the last event in Bangkok, Thailand, finished seventh in the final.
Korea has secured the top two places in women's archery, as Kim Ye-sseul and Kim Yu-mi have set up an all-Korean final, scheduled for Sunday.
As of Friday, South Korea has accumulated 12 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals to rank third behind China, which has 15 gold medals, and Japan, which has 12 gold, 11 silver and 20 bronze medals.
The Universiade ends Monday.
