Both were stuck on the wrong end of a string of straight defeats, but they contrived to light up a weekend of sport action.
For the LG Twins and the Heroes generated an unbelievable series of Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) records at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul on Friday.
During four hours and 39 minutes, both teams smashed each side's mound, and Twins manager Kim Jae-bak was able to smile at last after grabbing a 22-17 victory.
At the end of the fourth inning, the Heroes had a sizable 13-5 lead.
But the third-ranked Twins produced three runs in the top of the fifth inning and made the score 13-12 in the sixth through Lee Jin-young's three-run homer.
In the seventh, Twins import Roberto Petagine hit a grand slam to reverse the game 17-13.
The Heroes then trailed further through Hwang Jae-kyun's three-run dinger in the bottom of the seventh.
The win meant the Twins ended their losing streak at four.
Defeat left the Heroes counting the cost of eight consecutive reversals.
The remarkable result of 39 scores gave both sides the most runs in KBO history, and the 40 hits and 84 total bases were also new landmarks.
While both teams sent the ball over the fence 11 times ― the most in 27 years of KBO history ― the Twins made a cycling home run for the first time.
The Heroes became the loser generating the most runs.
