Kim Claims Gold in Ski Jumping

South Korean Kim Hyun-ki claimed a gold medal in the men's K90 ski jumping at the 24th Winter Universiade, in Harbin, China, Saturday.

Kim earned a total of 261 points to defeat Bachleda Marcin of Poland, who recorded 257.5. Austrian Bastian Kaltenboeck took bronze, with 251 points.

Kim, 26, jumped 99.5 meters and 94.5 in each round, edging out the Pole by 3.5 points.

It is Korea's first podium finish in the event since the 2003 competition in Tarvisio, Italy.

In speed skating, Lee Kang-seok added one more gold medal in the men's 100-meter race Saturday, clocking 9.61 seconds. Lee, 23, also grabbed gold in the 500 meters last Thursday.

As of Saturday, Korea ranks second, with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals, behind Russia.
