South Koreans Sweep US Golf Titles

Male and female golfers of South Korean descent Sunday swept American PGA and LPGA golf championships.

Lee Seon-hwa of South Korea edged out two of her compatriots to notch a one-stroke victory at the U.S. LPGA Tour's NW Arkansas Championship, closing with 4-under 68.

Korean-American Anthony Kim also won the AT&T national, closing with a 5-under 65, and became the first American under 25 to claim a U.S. PGA title twice in one year since Tiger Woods.

Finishing with a total of 15-under 201 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., the 22-year-old shot a crucial birdie on the final hole to beat Jane Park and Meena Lee, who tied for second at 10-under 62.

Lee is the third South Korean in the last three weeks to claim a U.S. women's title after Park In-bee won the U.S. Women's Open on July 1 and Ji Eun-hee got her first title at the Wegmans LPGA on June 23.

``I didn't know she (Meena Lee) made bogey on 17,'' Lee Seon-hwa was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.

Kristy McPherson of the United States finished tied for fourth with Korean-Brazilian Angela Park, Karen Stupples and Ai Miyazato.
