South Korea Beat Turkmenistan 4-0

Adding to the lunar New Year holiday mood here, South Korea defeated Turkmenistan 4-0 on Feb. 6 in an Asian qualifier for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

With the landslide win, South Korea's chance for advancing to the final regional qualifying round has further increased.

Three English Premier Leaguers -- Park Ji-sung of Manchester United, Seol Ki-hyeon of Fulham and Lee Young-pyo of Tottenham Hotspur -- saved South Korean coach Huh Jung-moo from a sinking mood. Seol scored two goals while Park made one.

It was a crucial match for Huh amid growing criticism with the national team having scored no goal since he became the new coach for the team in December last year. South Korean footballers have failed to score during the past seven months since it won over Indonesia on July 18 last year for an Asian Cup.

Defender Kwak Tae-hee (27, Jeonnam Dragons) opened the fire with a header at 43 minute in the first half.

In the meantime, North Korea also beat Jordan 1-0 in the qualifier on Feb. 7. National teams of South and North Korea plan to compete on March 26 in Pyongyang.
