Yonsei University has accepted a guide dog as an honorary student.
Noon Song ― the dog, aged 2, which has guided Lee Ye-won, a senior majoring in psychology, since March ― is the first canine to win the status. The Seoul-based school allocated a student ID to the dog on Wednesday.
“From now on, Noon Song is officially a Yonsei student,” said Prof. Cho Chang-hoan, of the department of communication, after the student ID ceremony. “It will be treated the same as an ordinary student in every way.”
The school said the ceremony was to promote the rights of students with disabilities ahead of the International Day of People with Disability (April 20) and International Guide Dogs Day (April 24).
