South Korea's total building floor area up 3.1 percent in 2018

The combined floor area of buildings in South Korea moved up 3.1 percent in 2018 from a year earlier, government data showed Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the total area came to 3.75 billion square meters, up from 3.64 billion square meters at the end of 2017.

The floor area of buildings in Seoul and the surrounding area jumped by 2.9 percent on-year, with the rest of the country logging an increase of 3.2 percent, the data showed.

The 555-meter Lotte World Tower, in southeastern Seoul, was the tallest building in the country, the findings showed.

South Korea had 107 buildings with more than 50 stories last year, the ministry said. (Yonhap)
