The Cyber University of Korea (CUK) and the Overseas Koreans Foundation (OKF) have agreed to cooperate on a support program to help Korean teachers overseas strengthen their job capabilities, the school said, Monday.
The program aims to support language instructors working at Korean institutions around the world to earn the second-level Korean language teaching certificate to improve their ability. Instructors will also have the opportunity to participate in research projects and exchange programs run by the two organizations to strengthen their competitiveness in the education field.
The Cyber University will not charge admission fees will give tuition discounts to instructors who have worked at Korean language institutions overseas for a certain period of time and received recommendations. The foundation will give additional scholarships to instructors who perform well.
Employees at the foundation are also eligible to apply for the support program and study at CUK.
The Department of Korean Language at CUK operates a second-level teaching certificate program that enables holders to teach Korean language “professionally.” Another second-level certificate program is for immigrants to Korea.
CUK students also are allowed to teach Korean to foreigners at the Korean Language Center run by Korea University as part of its exchange program.
”We aim to expand overseas language instructors' abilities by sharing our outstanding curriculum and knowhow,” a CUK official said.
The Cyber University is now accepting students for the 2019 school year through Feb. 13.
The OKF was established in 1997 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a non-profit organization to improve the rights and interests of Koreans abroad. It runs various projects in education, culture and Korean studies.
