The sky turned gray on Tuesday as ultrafine dust, generated here and blown in from China, blanketed the Korean Peninsula.

Air quality was “bad” in many parts of the country, the

National Institute of Environmental Research

(NIER) said. But it didn't fall to the level of issuing a fine dust advisory. It encouraged people to wear dust masks while outdoors.

The density of fine dust was high in western parts of the peninsula ― Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province.

The sky has been filled with dust since Sunday.

Inhalation of dusty air can cause respiratory or cardiovascular diseases.
