Record-tall wooden building to go up in Yeongju
By Park Si-soo
A 19.12-meter wooden building -- the nation’s tallest -- will be built in the southern city of Yeongju.
The six-story structure will cost 3.7 billion won and be completed by September 2018. It will be primarily made with larch, one of the most widespread tree species here.
The tallest wooden building now is 17 meters and is in the compound of the National Institute of Forest Science in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The new building will house the laboratories of a state-funded research center under the Korea Forest Service.
